As a contrast to the cultural activities there are many opportunities for more physical activities around Vejer. For walkers there are plenty of immediate circular day walks in the area either towards the coast or inland through the small sierras around the town. Please note that none of the trails are marked. For bikers you can hire good quality front suspension mountain bikes. Using a mixture of dirt trails & small country roads there are plenty of circular day rides between 20 & 40km. In Vejer there are tennis courts & 'paddle' tennis facilities. For water sports we recommend sea kayaking along the 150m. high cliffs of the Acantilado nature reserve. Seabirds wheel around & you can stop off in deserted coves for a swim & picnic. From the marina in Barbate those with their Divers license will be taken for wreck dives off Cape Trafalgar & the Acantilado cliffs. If you fancy windsurfing either hire or one day courses will be arranged in Tarifa, regarded as Europes windsurf capital with over 8 schools & hire centres offering equipment & tuition in the beautiful sand duned bay of Punta Paloma. Also in Tarifa we can't recommend too highly an excursion into the Straits of gibraltar in search of dolphins & whales. Sightings are made daily of these fascinating creatures.
If you fancy your hand at flying why not try your hand at paragliding in Vejer with one of Andalucías top teachers. In Medina a small airfield is home to a microlight school and inexpensive flights are offered over the hills & along the beaches of the area. See Vejer from the air! If mountains are more to your liking we can organise a one day climbing course on the limestone rocks of Bolonia overlooking the roman ruins of Baelo Claudia. For the most thrilling of all the adrenalin sports - canyoning - the hills of Grazalema are a couple of hours drive away where you can venture deep into the Garganta Verde following the course of the Bocaleones (Lions Mouth) river, abseiling & swimming through the canyon.

El Palmar 'The best surfing beach of the Cádiz area. From even half a metre the waves have strength & it can hold up to 2.5m. Fast shorebreak waves, poweful & with acceptable length. A high quality spot.' We say - 'Irregular conditions. Waves Sept to June. Best surfing in Andalucía.'
Los Caños '...it breaks at low tide protected from the west winds. It's a left although sometimes has rights of poor quality. At low tide breaks with little depth and it is then that the wave has quality walling up hollow & long. Classic reef spot. It breaks when El Palmar is at least 3ft.' We say - 'Good description but watch out for the rocks at low tide'
Windsurfing Windsurf spots are 10-12km. from Vejer with road access. With Tarifa so close (mainland Europes top windsurf destination) Vejers beaches get plenty of attention on high wind days.
Los Caños (in front of the apartments) - top spot when it's blowing over a bf.6. All the wavesailors from Tarifa train here when wind, tides & waves coincide. Best with a westerly 'Levante'. Fast crossshore with waves. Good beach access but beware of sharp rocks at low tide. Not recommended sailing beyond Traflagar point.
Los Caños (bay) - perfect launching but low wind affects take off until you are 100m. offshore. Best views inland (palm trees & pine forests) as you're sailing. Not recommended when the beach is busy. Only decent spot for learners.
Trafalgar beach - Good sailing when it blows a northerly. Watch out for the headland currents & we advise against sailing the other side of the isthmus. Dangerous currents.
El Palmar beach - Lonely sailing here as so few people do. Often fast flat water sailing in Levante as it blows cross-off. Best beach launch, no rocks. Take care with wind direction.

This is a typical american parkland with four lakes. Its three layouts with 27 holes offer a great variety of combinations. Situated on the sea side, the terrain shows a huge extension where the hazards will storm the players. Numerous water hazards, lakes, trees and bunkers. The fairways, american in style, are general fairly narrow and call for precise strokes. One of the main features of this course is its natural surrounding and the great variety of tree species.

This 18 hole golf course is ideal for both beginners and professional players. There are interesting variations for players, for the precision and direction of their strokes and to go through the water hazards. Numerous bunkers protect the quality greens, they are fast but with difficult slopes. The first nine holes are characterized by broad and wide fairways. At the back nine holes, the fairways get tighter and the greens are more complicated. The course is amusing but very demanding with golf players. It is considered one of the best courses in all Europe.

This course was built on the lowest part of a valley in a large area which allows for broad fairways and a long layout. The water hazards are to be found along the second round . This course calls for all rounds players and will be rather difficult for inexperienced players. Numerous trees provide a good defense against the winds. The difficulty met at the 18th hole requires an allround game.

The golf course with over 500 olive trees, some of them hundreds of years old which have been brought from distant locations and planted where they can define the course and frame target areas. Many more, like the young corks, have been saved from the axe elsewhere. The olive trees are the particular importance at the 7th, 11th and 14th holes. An abundance of wild and cultivated flowers enhance the golf course. On any golf course, specially one near the sea, the wind can be an important factor.
